Author Services
Granville Island Publishing utilizes a hybrid model of publishing and offers core services essential to the publication of professional and high-quality books. Within each stage of the journey to publication, we customize solutions depending on specific features of your book and where your manuscript (or book) is in its journey. As a result, we do not offer standard pricing options, but rather consult with authors and use initial assessments and a detailed interview and discussion to arrive at the elements for producing a quote.
Experience the full benefit of having experts with industry experience on your team.
Granville Island Publishing accepts a limited number of contracts at a time.
- Every relationship we start with an author begins with an introduction and discussion.
- In the meeting we want to find out what your goals are for your book and yourself.
- Who is your audience?
- What do you want your book to look like?
- What is its word count?
- If there are photos, we need to know how many and check their quality (later)
- We need to read some or all of your manuscript to see how much work (or not) is needed.
A reader’s report assists us with that.
We both benefit from a reader’s report where we receive an editor’s opinion of what is strong about your manuscript and what it still requires to make it an excellent book.
The cost of the reader’s report is simply based on word count. You tell us the word count and we can tell you the cost immediately. It is payable in advance. You can then send us the manuscript printed out and/or electronically. Sometimes larger manuscripts with images come on memory sticks. I assign a reader who is interested in your subject. You will receive the report within two weeks. The length of the report ranges from four to eight pages.
Together we decide on what your book will look like, how many pages it will be and how many copies should be printed initially. That along with the reader’s report helps us to work out a quote. The quote can include many services related to marketing effectively and putting it into sales pathways beyond on-line.
