The Reporter and the Winnipeg General Strike

The Reporter and the Winnipeg General Strike

Michael Dupuis

Can reporter William Patterson handle the big, Winnipeg general strike story? Is it union recognition and demands for fair wages and safe working conditions? Or is it an attempt at revolution, as red-fearing opponents insist? Winnipeg is reeling from the Spanish flu and the aftermath of World War I.

Now with the fear of communism and the deepening divide between race and class, the city is a ticking time bomb. As the strike reaches its violent climax, can Patterson confront his demons, expose corruption and report the truth?

Review / Testimonials:

“Finally, simple words that put the Winnipeg General Strike into perspective for the average Canadian reader.”
—Peter Warren – Former City Editor, Winnipeg Tribune, Former Host, The CJOB Action Line (Winnipeg)

“With his encyclopedic knowledge of world history of the era, Michael Dupuis takes us from the streets of London, to the halls of power in Ottawa, and smack dab into the boiling cauldron that was the 1919 Winnipeg General Strike. And then he takes us into the minds of WW1’s returned soldiers, and the reporters who were the witnesses to history, all with a swash-buckling allure that will have you wearing out your fingers to turn the pages fast enough.”
—Danny Schur Composer/Producer/Writer, Stand! Movie Musical
